Only once each year (during O-Tsukimi, Moonviewing) the Portland Japanese Garden rakes their zen garden into this stunning pattern.

The circle symbolizes wholeness, enlightnment and all cyclic movement, while the gourd symbolizes happiness, longevity and prosperity.

This painting is my rendition of their beautiful garden at this time of year, celebrating life, balance and the autumn moon.
